
- This programme is aimed at students from a Member State or an Associated Member State.
- Trainees must be registered in an educational establishment for the duration of the traineeship.
- Trainees must be at least 18 years and enrolled in full-time education (PhD students are not eligible).
- Traineeships cannot be interrupted by periods of study (no “alternance” option is possible at CERN).
Procedure:
- Application submitted by Trainees via Smartrecruiters.
- Supervisor should contact directly HR department using this link for the access of Smartrecruiters (more information provided by HR).
- Supervisor should proceed with the trainee selection in SharePoint. Access granted by HR.

- HR informs Trainees of the selection and request them an ID document and the Home Institute Declaration.
- HR draws up the contract on the basis of the information previously entered in SharePoint by the supervisor.
- Trainees must sign the contract and return it to HR.
- Trainees are registered into the CERN personnel database (Status TRNE) and an EDH/REG is sent to the BE Central for information.
Once registration has been confirmed:
- Welcome email with useful and practical information is sent to trainees (Action: GAOs).
- It is essential that the TRNE submit their Emergency Contacts and Local Address at the same time as their Bank Details in EDH.
- A monthly subsistence is paid to trainees (Budget code has to be provided by the GAO) (Action: BE Central).
